Meeting with Lake Macquarie Council Mayor

On 6 March 2025, the Alliance and the Progress Association met with the LMCC Mayor and Council staff.

Key matters discussed included:

Status of the CHB Masterplan

  • The CHB Masterplan remains a Council priority.

  • Timelines are subject to change as Council reevaluates priorities on an ongoing basis.

  • The current (annual) LMCC operational plan includes funding for design activities.

  • Next financial year's operational plan will be released for public consultation soon. It is expected this will include some funding for further design activities.

  • It is likely that building will start in the following 2 years.

  • LMCC’s 10-year plan anticipates the Masterplan being fully delivered.

Village Park

  • The park has this week been officially dedicated to Council.

  • There are no current plans or funding for further improvements to be made. However, in future applications could be made for state funding or grants.

  • The developer is responsible for soft landscaping maintenance for 5 years. Any ongoing maintenance issues should be reported via Council.

  • Any additional needs can be raised with Council as the community uses the park over time.

Intersection of Flowers Drive and Pacific Highway

  • Any changes to the current approved arrangement would be for the developer to initiate. This would be a modification to the consent and hence likely to be a matter for the State, but Council may be consulted.

Other issues

  • Council staff noted that any DA for the privately owned retail site on Hale Street would most likely be published for public consultation even if complying.

  • An application for a temporary or mobile cafe on private land could be discussed with the duty planner at Council.

  • The poor state of the native bush corridors along Montefiore and within the Moonee estate needs to be addressed. Council will provide a contact to discuss next steps.
